About two centuries ago, an impressiveyesidence block that became the landmark of aristocracy in Corfu Old Town was erected. Today, the famous Liston Square is still the most cosmopolitan part of the island and accessible to all. It is said, although it is probably an urban legend, that on its high street (nowadays called Liberty Boulevard) only the aristocrats of that era were allowed to walk; this was a trend that came from Paris known as "Boulevard" that meant elegant and delimited urban promenade. The buildings lining the "square have elegant ground floor arcades that were created by the Imperial French during their second period of occupation of the island (1807 -1814) and were primarily used as barracks.

The Museum of Asiatic Art is unique in Greece and one of the most important of its kind in Europe. It contains some eleven thousand exhibits spanning the eleventh century BC to the twentieth century AD from a variety of Asian countries The greater part of the collection, more than ten thousand objects, come from China and Japan, while the rest come from Tibet, Korea, India, Pakistan, Nepal, Thailand and Cambodia.

The Palace of Saints Michael and George hosts the Asiatic Museum. It contains works of art from Japan, Siam, Tibet, China and India. The exhibits cover the chronological period 1500 B.C. to the 20th century and the museum is primarily based on the private collection of Corfiot diplomat Grigorios Manos.The building is a classic and excellent example of Georgian architecture, constructed during the time of British occupation.

The church dedicated to the Holy Mother of God Antivouniotissa, one of the oldest and richest religious monuments on Corfu, was probably built at the end of the 15th c. Since 1984, a rich collection of heirlooms and portable icons is on display in the church of the Antivouniotissa.
