Many anchor their yachts in the bay and make free use of the jetty in front of the property. Nestled in the lush green cove of Agni, below the traditional village of Kentroma, little has changed in Agni, despite the arrival of tourism on the island 30 years ago. Agni boasts three beach front tavernas, each famous for its different style. Taverna Agni serves traditional Greek fare with a Mediterranean twist and steaks. Toulas has an enviable reputation for its mouth-watering seafood dishes. Taverna Nikolas is renowned for its hospitality and local specialties. The world is your oyster from Agni. If sailing is your passion then the diversity of the Ionian Islands and the Adriatic are on your doorstep, with southern France, including Monte Carlo further afield to the north-west. Travel south around the Peloponnese peninsula and you have the Cyclades and Aegean islands to explore to the east. Gouvia marina is located just 20 minutes from Agni in the bay of Kontakali. The first and largest of the marinas in this part of the Mediterranean, Gouvia Marina offers 1,600 berths and a comprehensive range of services. Alternatively the island offers water sports, an 18-hole golf course, a myriad of museums, art galleries and music concerts; as well as stunning Venetian architecture and various activities including walks through olive groves and along mountain tracks. Pick up the footpath from Agni bay along the south-west bound ridge and you will find the tiny rock-face chapel of Aghios Arsenios recently featured in Deborah Lawrenson’s book ‘Songs of Blue and Gold’ which emphasizes the magic and beauty of the area. Corfu being the main most westerly of the Greek islands is the closest to mainland Europe and offers regular ferry crossings to and from Italy (ferry port 30 minutes from Agni) and an international airport (airport 40 minutes from Agni).
