Animal Charities

Welcome to Agni Animal Welfare Fund.We are a small group of people trying to improve the life of animals on Corfu, hence, the Agni Animal Welfare Fund has been set up in association with Agni Travel in order that friends and visitors can make donations to help the islands stray animals.

The well-known Austrian actress Gabrielle Jacoby and a group of like minded animal lovers, both Greeks and foreigners, founded the Ark in 1997. It was formed primarily to alleviate the suffering of stray and abandoned animals on the island of Corfu. The Ark is a registered charity and is administered by an elected board of trustees who are responsible for the various functions necessary to ensure the smooth running of the organization.

We are a small group of people dedicated to helping abused and unwanted animals on the island of Corfu. The reason we began this work is that we could no longer ignore the plight of the unwanted animals that are abandoned on the streets throughout Greece; left “in the hands of God”, as their irresponsible former owners put it. The dogs featured on these pages are some of the dogs that have been rescued by us and rehomed by our contacts in Germany, Austria, Sweden and Holland. We would like to thank the following for their support and for donating so much time and effort towards finding good homes for a number of these deserving animals.

Friends of Corfu Donkey Rescue (FCDR) FCDR is a new charity that has been set up in UK with a full Board of Trustees. It is now a fully registered charity under the control of The Charity Commission, registration number 1136204. Its primary function is to support the activities of CDR and it will do this in two ways - it will raise money in the UK for CDR and it will provide a channel for those who are not sure how to send their donations directly to a bank in Corfu. A key advantage for UK donors will be the opportunity to contribute using Giftaid and other tax advantages which are not available if donating directly to a Greek registered charity. I have personally known the Board of Trustees for many years and I have been involved in the setting up of FCDR. I am more than happy to express my complete trust in this charity.
